Foodie 365 | Week 41

I haven't updated my Foodie 365 for how many weeks because of many reasons, but here's an update. I am now on my Week 42.

Sardines with Bok Choy

281. Sardines with Bok Choy and Vermicelli

I took on this habit-a-week challenge, and even if I decided to restart for my weight loss journey, I think I have already developed the habit of eating veggies, and for tonight's dinner, I went to the market to buy two small cans of sardines (in tomato sauce) and some bok choy and a small pack of vermicelli noodles. A very simple dish, but healthy. :)

KFC

282. KFC Hot and Crispy

After the Lee Kum Kee Cooking with the Masters grand cooking demo at Glorietta, sister and I went to eat at KFC because for sure there will be no dinner waiting for us when we got home.

Lunch

283. Corned Beef with Potatoes and Mushrooms

I did a lot of house chores today, so I just reheated the left over food from yesterday's lunch.

Adobong Kangkong

284. Adobong Kangkong

Veggies for today! I love kangkong and I love adobo, so why not cook adobong kangkong?

Paksiw na Bangus

285. Paksiw na Bangus

Aunt Mary gave us some seafood from Pangasinan, so I cooked the bangus mom bought a few days before. Still taking on the habit of eating veggies, I asked friends what veggies I could add, and they said eggplant and ampalaya, so I went to the market (a good reason to walk) and bought the veggies.

Steamed Fish with Black Bean Tapenade

286. Steamed Fish Fillet with Black Bean Tapenade by Crustasia

Siblings and I went to the Appetite Magazine Restaurant Festival 2011 (full story on that tomorrow). I got to eat a lot, but among my favorites include this one by Crustasia.

Sinigang na Baka

287. Sinigang na Baka

Weekend is about to come, but we still haven't cooked the beef ribs we ordered last weekend, so I went to cook it. I asked sister if she preferred Sinigang or Nilaga, and she chose Sinigang because she wanted to eat taro. Well, comparing the health benefits from potatoes and cabbage (nilaga) to sitaw and kangkong (sinigang), I think it's healthier to eat sinigang. :)

Foodie 365 | Week 32

Foods I ate last week...

218. Fish Paksiw

218. Fish Paksiw

I just had a taste of this dish, though... as I ate a sandwich an hour before I cooked this for dinner.

219. Dinuguan

219. Dinuguan

Mommy was able to ask for free pig's blood at the market, so I cooked this dish for lunch. If you read my personal blog, you know now that I am cutting back on food (and I started exercising, too) because I wanted to lose weight. Even if this dish tasted good, I only ate 1/2 cup of it (paired with a cup of rice). We still have remaining blood in the freezer, so I might cook this dish again, and might add some extenders (thinking of upo or sayote) to make it a bit healthier.

Fish and Chips with Mango Butter Sauce

220. Fish and Chips with Mango-Butter Sauce

Surprised to see one cream dory fillet in the freezer (which we somehow have forgotten already), I went to cook it the way we always do here in the house: Fish and Chips! I used a different dipping sauce, though, and if you want to know how I made the mango-butter sauce, you can check the recipe HERE.

Pork Nilaga

221. Pork Nilaga

Whenever mom sees the tail part of the pork in the market, she couldn't resist not buying it, even if we would scold her a bit because it's quite fatty. Anyway, no one can really break mom's decision once she made it, so we could just cook it. :)

222. Steamed Tilapia

222. Steamed Tilapia

My aunt has diabetes and one time she asked me to buy her a copy of DiabetEASE Magazine, and in one of the magazines I bought for her, it said that among the fish people can eat, the tilapia is one of the unhealthiest, for reasons I cannot recall now. Anyway, since tilapia is one of the cheapest fish people can buy, the magazine didn't really ask people to stop eating it, but they did recommend that if people are to eat this, they should minimize frying it and just cook it the healthy way - grilling or steaming.

I saw some cabbage and carrots in the fridge, so I added some for my lunch.

Corned Beef Rice with Egg

223. Corned Beef Rice

As my friend Joe called me, I am lazy (today). Instead of going to the market and buy ingredients, I went to open the can of corned beef for lunch.

The egg I just put there for photo purposes, I didn't eat it.

224. Tuna Vermicelli

224. Tuna with Sotanghon

We had fresh fish in the freezer, but for some reason, brother opted to open the can of tuna and cook this for dinner. It was delicious, but I kinda regretted putting 1 cup of rice on my plate, I should just went for 3/4 cup or maybe even 1/2 cup of rice, because the sotanghon was quite filling as well.

Last weekend, I told myself I'd eat more fish and vegetables this week, and I think I was able to fulfill the fish part of it, but I admit I still am struggling to find a balance with my food intake. Still, I am happy that I am now learning how to cut down my food intake without feeling I was cheated. :) At least I know my body won't rebel against me anytime.

Foodie 365 | Week 20

As promised... here are the foods for Week 20.

Fern Salad

134. Ensaladang Pako
Palaisdaan Restaurant - Tayabas, Quezon
14 May 2011

We got to Tayabas late lunch time, and when we went to Palaisdaan Restaurant to eat lunch, the place was just jam-packed! Good thing we found a hut to stay at... and although foods arrived 20 minutes after we placed the order, we really had a great time eating. Even before traveling there I already searched for the restaurant and found they serve Fern Salad, so I told Ria and sister that it just had to be part of our meal. Good thing they allowed me to order it. It was delicious... and yes, it comes with a bowl of canned sardines. :)

Pizza

135. Pizza, Pizza!
Ground Zero - Lucban, Quezon
15 May 2011

We were so tired and hungry after checking the houses around Lucban, so for lunch, Ria took us to Ground Zero because she told us pizza here taste delish. Instead of ordering one big pizza, I suggested we get two smaller pizzas so we can eat two flavors. :) Awesome lunch!

136. Karinderya Foods

136. Karinderya Foods
16 May 2011

We left Quezon at 4am, and by 7am we were already home. We were so tired from the weekend that sis and I had no urge to prepare foods, so brother decided to just buy ready made foods from the Karinderya. He bought dinakdakan, dinuguan, and beef with potatoes and carrots. The dinuguan I didn't like because it was all intestines, but the dinakdakan I liked even if it's not like how we prepare it.

137. Chicharon

137. Ka Popoy's Chicharon
17 May 2011

My neck and back hurts because of long walks and long travels, so I didn't come to SM MOA to witness the oath taking of my cousin. Brother is with his girlfriend, so that made me home alone, and even if I eat a lot, I actually have less appetite whenever I eat alone, so I just watched TV while munching on these chicharon, which was one of the things I bought from Quezon.

138. Corned Beef

138. Corned Beef with Potatoes
18 May 2011

Still didn't have the urge to cook "good" foods, I went to just open a can of Palm Corned Beef (family's new favorite brand) for lunch. Simple, lazy food... but delicious nonetheless.

139. Uraro Cookies

139. Uraro Cookies
19 May 2011

Another one of the Quezon food items I bought for pasalubong.

140. Corny Spaghetti

140. Corny Ham Spaghetti
20 May 2011

Brother is with his girlfriend again, mom went out to a movie date with colleagues.. and I was lazy to cook... again. However, I had to feed my sister and my cousin, so I just cooked the Corny Ham Spaghetti (without the toasted garlic bits), because we had some boiled corn. My sister loved it, and my cousin didn't complain, so I guess I cooked this one good. :) If you want to cook this dish, you can check the recipe HERE.

Mostly ready-made foods for this week for me, I do hope next week will be a week for me to cook new dishes.
