Moonleaf Tea Shop {Maginhawa QC}

Moonleaf Tea Shop - Maginhawa

My siblings and I received Moonleaf Tea Shop gift certificates that would expire by the end of September. I really thought I would never get to use my GC anymore, but because mom was able to finish submitting documents by lunch time, I asked them if they wanted to use it. Good thing that we were just near the Maginhawa branch.

Just like the many food shops along Maginhawa Street, this one was also a house turned into a shop. Because of its location, many students from schools near the area come here to enjoy their favorite Moonleaf Tea Shop drinks, pastries and choice savory dishes, while doing their school assignments. It was a good place to hang out with friends or enjoy a quiet time to study because not only does this shop have free WiFi access, they also have available electrical sockets for people to charge their laptops and/or phones.

One thing I liked was that aside from the foods and drinks was that this store has a craft corner that sells different stuff - washi tapes, twines, pouches, jewelry, even iPhone cases... all from Hey Kessy.

We just had our lunch so we were just there to enjoy drinks. I took my sister and my mom's order and allowed me to choose other drinks to maximize the amount of our gift certificate.

With the help of the friendly barista, I was able to get six cups of drinks:

  • Wintermelon Milk Tea with nata de coco
  • Peach Yakult with nata de coco
  • Wintermelon Milk Tea with tapioca pearls
  • Lychee Jasmine with aloe
  • Yogurt Milk Tea with nata de coco
  • Hakka Milk Tea with tapioca pearls
My sister's first choice was the Wintermelon Milk Tea (Oolong based), but it was not available so she just went for the basic Wintermelon Milk Tea, same as mom. My favorite Moonleaf Tea Shop drink is the Passionfruit Yakult, but when I saw the Peach Yakult, I decided to go for it instead. Peach Yakult was sweeter compared to the Passionfruit one, but very very delicious! Sister's next choice was the Hakka Milk Tea and my second choice was the Yogurt Milk Tea, and because I know their drinks cost near or a little over 100 pesos plus the add-on sinkers, so I thought I could only get five cups of drinks, but the barista told me I could still order for one more drink and suggested I try Lychee Jasmine with aloe. I love it when the barista knows which add-on goes well with the drink.

We were still full from lunch, so we only drank one cup of drink each and took home the rest. Supposedly, the Yogurt Milk Tea was something I chose for mom and the Lychee Jasmine would be for me, but when mom checked the chiller, she decided to go for the Lychee Jasmine and loved it a lot!

If you want to visit this branch, you can take the Teacher's Village tricycle from Philcoa and just ask the driver to drop you off at Moonleaf Tea Shop. Fare cost 25 pesos.

ABC Wednesdays | S & T

I wasn't able to participate last week, so I have two post to catch up.

Pinoy Spaghetti

For letter S, I am sharing this plate of spaghetti, my favorite pasta. I don't know why I feel other types of pasta taste like flour even if it has lots of sauce and toppings yet love spaghetti even if I only season it with salt, pepper, and a little cheese... but I am weird like that. Actually, my favorite spaghetti is the regular one, like the one in the picture... the angel hair spaghetti also taste like flour to me. It doesn't mean I don't eat other types of pasta (sure I do eat just about any kind), it's just that... if I am given a choice, I will always go for spaghetti.

The one pictured above is the typical Filipino spaghetti - with slices of hotdog and ground meat in slightly sweet spaghetti sauce topped with grated cheddar cheese. I can go with almost any kind of sauce, but lately I am leaning towards the oil based ones... the aglio olio is my current favorite.

Tiramisu

After a serving of pasta, time to eat a dessert. Tiramisu, anyone? This small serving of Tiramisu was something my dear K and I shared while vacationing in Iloilo two years ago. Well, he's flying back to Manila pretty soon... so I am very excited to share more memories with him.

ABC Wednesdays | Reese's Peanut Butter Cups

After eating dinner, mom went to her room and went back to the dining area offering us a dessert. I guess someone at work gave these to her, but because I was already eating some bite size pieces of papaya, I told her I'd just put it in the fridge.

When she handed me these two mini Reese's Peanut Butter Cups, I was a little sad because I don't like this that much... but when I remembered that it's Letter R this week at ABC Wednesdays, I took pictures of it first before putting it in the fridge.

Like what I said, I am not into candies, and I never became a fan of Reese's Peanut Butter Cups. Well, I do eat peanuts, but peanut butter isn't something I crave for - I just put some on my bread if we have it. When I first tasted Reese's Peanut Butter Cups, I found it quite salty, so I didn't eat it again.

For sure my sister will be the one eating this.

ABC Wednesdays | Q - Quaker Oat Cookies

Even then, oat has been considered as a healthy food. It was my late father who introduced eating oatmeal at home and I have come to love my oatmeal cooked in just water and added with banana slices, but in time I have noticed my body having negative reactions after eating oatmeal - tummy aches being the most uncomfortable side effect. I haven't really stopped eating oatmeal, though I eat it once in a blue moon.

Quaker Oat Cookies

It was through my friend Ria that I learned about the Quaker Oat Cookies, when she brought some during our first travel to La Union. At that time, I only got to taste the Apple & Cinnamon, then, when I told my sister about it, she started buying some as her snack or quick meal during busy days. Normally, these are sold in packs of the same flavor, but when we last went to the supermarket, I got to see a sampler pack having 2 packs each of the four flavors.

Quaker Oat Cookies

I first tried the Quaker Oat Cookies with Chocolate Chips. The size is okay, as well as its flavor. Then, I ate the Quaker Oat Cookies Honey Nuts, which also tasted good, but I still liked the one with Chocolate Chips. One pack is enough to satisfy the hungry tummy, but I can only eat one pack at a time, just so I won't have feel the side effects of eating oats.

ABC Wednesdays - O & P

Another two-in-one ABC Wednesday post for me this week.

O - Osso Bucco
Osso Bucco is a Milanese dish which meant "Bone with a Hole" (Osso - bone; Bucco - hole). It uses veal shanks braised in vegetables, white wine, and gremolata.

This dish was what I had for dinner when I dined at Bellini's (an authentic Italian restaurant) in Cubao, Quezon City with my friend K.

P - Pili Nuts
Pili is a tropical tree native to South East Asia, Papua New Guinea, and Northern Australia. Although it is often used as an ornamental tree, it is only here in the Philippines that it is cultivated and its nuts processed commercially. The nuts can be eaten raw, but I prefer it lightly coated with caramel, because there's something in Pili Nuts that I didn't like much.

Next week it's going to be "Q," may I find a food item starting in Q. :) Happy mid-week, everyone!

ABC Wednesdays - M & N

I wasn't able to post something for ABC Wednesdays last week, so allow me to catch up this week, posting my entries for M and N.

I first learned about Mochiko through a Vlog posted by Karylle. I got interested about it, and when my sister and I attended a food event, we finally got to taste it and fell in love with it. Mochi is a Japanese confection made from glutinous rice flour and is filled with red bean paste. Mochicko's Mochi however infuses this confection with ice cream and other ingredients, creating a very wonderful harmony of flavors.

These mochi are quite expensive, but worth every penny. My sister and I loves whatever flavor we go for, but her favorite is black sesame, and oreo & milk, while I love the choco-nut flavor, because it is very Filipino, and is only available in June - the Philippine Independence month.

It is frozen as you buy it, so it is recommended to thaw it for a few minutes before biting into it. Although, don't thaw it for long because you might not appreciate melted ice cream oozing out of the rice dough.

Nigiri Sushi or the Hand-formed Sushi is the type of sushi with oblong sized mound of rice topped with seafood, usually with fish and wasabi. I am just starting to learn how to eat Japanese food, but I still don't go for raw meat, so this one is still something I haven't tasted. :)

This plate of Nigiri Sushi was served to us during a food-tasting event at Minori-Tei.
