I had no Internet connection last Friday so I wasn't able to share any recipes I have tried, but it was such a great thing that Internet has been good the past few days. This week, I am just going to share something easy to do. I love dishes with coconut milk, and when I got to read a recipe from somewhere (I totally forgot to jot down the web address when I copied the recipe in my little notepad), I knew I just had to try it.

Gising-Gising
{serves 3}

Ingredients:
  • 2 cups chopped string beans
  • 1 cup coconut milk
  • 150 grams ground pork
  • 3 pieces chili fingers, sliced diagonally
  • 1 medium onion, chopped
  • 3 - 4 cloves of garlic, chopped
  • small piece of ginger, pounded
  • about 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • salt and pepper to taste

How to Cook:
  • Heat oil and saute the onions, garlic, and ginger until limp. Add pork continue sauteeing until it changes in color. Season according to your preference.
  • Add the chopped string beans, finger chili, and pour in the coconut milk. Simmer for a few minutes then turn off the heat and serve.

Notes to Consider:
  • Most recipes use chopped green beans for this, I opted to use the string beans because it was much cheaper. :)
  • For the coconut milk, you can use whatever kind is available - freshly squeezed coco milk, or those in cans or powdered form (dilute it in warm water first if you're using this kind).

When I served this, sister said this would be much better if I used shrimp paste (bagoong alamang) to season it. We had a bottle of shrimp paste in the fridge, so what I did was to get some and mixed it in my rice (with some gising-gising), and when I tasted it, it was really wonderful. I love spicy foods, so this (I think) is much delicious if it's on the spicy side.
